Is your tag list a big mess? Do you struggle to find the perfect name each time you want to create a new tag?
Tags are what Infusionsoft uses to track the behaviours of contacts.
The problem I see very often is that people jump in and start creating tags as they need them without thinking of the bigger picture.
I see so many Infusionsoft apps that either barely use tags, or have way too many tags (I am talking hundreds or thousands, all automatically created by some type of process), the bottom line is if you don’t know how to use those tags, they are useless to you and can only overcomplicate your system.
If that is you, here are 3 steps to finally get your tag structure right (you can thank me by leaving a comment below!)
1- Come up with your own tag categories
Your tag categories need to be based on your business, your type of clients/offers and interaction with them, your marketing strategy (webinars, freebie signups private membership, one on one coaching,..)
Some types of tags you might be interested in:
Signups tags,
behaviour tags (clicks),
access tags (private member areas),
customer tags
nurture tags(usually with a start and stop)
prospects tags
And here is one way to organize your tags:
Someone signs up to a freebie : prospect tag
Prospect gets into a nurturing sequence that will lead to a paid offer : nurture tag start and stop.
Prospect purchases something : customer tag
Contact has access to member area/private content : access tag/revoke tag
Bottom line is : define a tagging structure and naming convention that works for YOU.
2- Define a strict naming convention and stick to it
Example for signup to freebie:
Name-of-freebie Signup
Name-of-freebie clicked (indicate they clicked on the link to download or access the freebie)
Example of behavior tag:
Name-of-freebie-name-of-link-clicked
Example of webinar/free video series signup live :
Name-of-event-date-signup
Name-of-event-date-attend
Name-of-event-date-no-attend
Name-of-event-date-offer-clicked
These are just examples, come up with your own and stick with it.
3- Create your tags based on what you want to track: nothing more, nothing less
I found that the best way to approach this is to look at your funnel before you implement it and for each step determine what you’d like to track, what type of information you’d like to get.
Based on that, create your tags first and then implement your campaign using those tags.
